Prerequisites and Permission Codes

Writing & Rhetoric Studies

Please review this information before requesting a permission code from Writing & Rhetoric Studies

To fulfill the prerequisite required to enroll in WRTG 2010 you can:

WRTG 2010 or equivalent WR2 credit on your Degree Audit.

*We are aware of several issues with classes and prerequisites appearing on the degree audit and still not allowing for registration. If this is the case please complete a WRTG Permission Code Request.

TRANSFERRING FROM A UTAH SCHOOL:

I have completed the prerequisite course at a school in Utah and am registering for my first semester at the UofU.

  • Check to make sure your records are fully transferred.
  • If you have not transferred your records, do so immediately.
  • For immediate help registering, you may want to complete a WRTG Permission Code Request.

I have completed the prerequisite course at a school in Utah and I have taken courses at the U of U.

  • If your course is listed on your degree audit. You may have a time conflict or you did not pass the prerequisite course with an appropriate grade. Verify that there are no time conflicts with the classes you are trying to register for and that you have an appropriate grade in the prerequisite course.
  • Verify that the course is not "department consent only"*
  • If the courses are not on your degree audit. Submit your transcript to the Admissions Office (electronic transcripts are processed more quickly) and complete a WRTG Permission Code Request

I am currently enrolled in the prerequisite course at another school.

  • Complete a WRTG Permission Code Request and include a copy of your unofficial transcript showing you are currently enrolled in the prerequisite course.

TRANSFERRING FROM A SCHOOL OUTSIDE OF UTAH:

I have completed the prerequisite course at a school outside of Utah.

  • Verify that the prerequisite course shows on your degree audit or that your transcript showing the prerequisite course has been sent to the Admissions Office. If you are still receiving an error, then complete a Transfer Credit Evaluation Request

I am currently enrolled in the prerequisite course at another school.

I am currently enrolled in the prerequisite course.

  • Steps you can take: you may have a time conflict, you are trying to register for a restricted section of a course, or the course is full. Verify that there are no time conflicts in your schedule, check the schedule for notes about restricted sections, and check that there are seats available in the class you are trying to add.
  • Exception: If you are enrolled in a 1st half course that is the prerequisite for a 2nd half course, you will need to complete a WRTG Permission Code Request.

I want to repeat a course for a better grade.

  • If you did not take the prerequisite course at the UofU and you passed the course you want to repeat with a C or better please complete a WRTG Permission Code Request.

I met the prerequisite another way.

The course I want to take is designated as section "-290"

  • -290 is the designation that UOnline uses. If you see this class, go into Schedule Builder and "uncheck" UOnline Campus. We cannot give permission codes for any section -290 classes.

The course I want to take is full.

  • If the course is a  3000+ level course, please get on the waitlist.
  • If the course is WRTG 1010 or WRTG 2010, do not ask for a permission code. We do not sign students in over the enrollment cap for any reason.

The course requires WRTG 2010, but is not a WRTG class.

  • We cannot provide permission codes for other departments. Contact the department offering the course.

It is the 2nd week of school and registering requires a permission code.

It is past the last day to add classes. Can I still enroll in the course?

  • This will require instructor permission and a "late add" form from the Registration Desk in the Student Services Building.  Please follow the directions as outlined in the Office of the Registrar's Petition to Request to Add Classes After the Deadline procedure.

I am a non-matriculated student and I took the prerequisites at a different school.
